What is the Camel Races?
The Camel Races is the Family Literacy Center’s biggest annual fundraiser, helping us continue to provide free educational programs for adults and families in Lapeer and the surrounding areas. Every dollar raised supports students working toward their GED, learning English, and improving their reading and math skills.
Sponsors decorate wooden camels based on the year’s theme and “race” them down the track in a lighthearted competition that brings the community together. It’s a great way to promote your business, enjoy a fun team-building experience, and support adult education—all at once!
At the event, guests enjoy raffle drawings, door prizes, a silent auction, 50/50 raffles, and plenty of laughter and friendly competition. It’s a night of fun and excitement for guests 18 and older!

Local businesses and sponsors joined in the excitement, decorating their wooden camels as Hollywood icons and racing for a great cause. From dazzling decorations to spirited cheers, the evening truly celebrated the power of community and the importance of lifelong learning.
