FLC + JMG: Helping Youth Build Brighter Futures

The Family Literacy Center proudly partners with GST MI Works to bring the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program to youth in Lapeer, Sanilac, Tuscola, Huron, and Shiawassee counties. JMG serves young people ages 16–24, helping them overcome barriers, graduate, and prepare for meaningful careers or further education. At FLC, we go beyond academics by offering life-skills training—teaching interview techniques, financial literacy, CPR certification, and more—so students gain the confidence and practical skills needed to succeed in both work and life.

This partnership is producing remarkable results in our region. In Region 6, JMG programs reported 100% graduation rates, with 81% of participants employed and 70% pursuing postsecondary education after completion. One of our own students, Rob, shared how he left school to support his family, worked for two years, and then came to FLC to earn his GED. He credits FLC with not only helping him academically but also giving him a supportive community that encouraged him to dream bigger. Today, Rob is a proud GED graduate with a clear career path and renewed confidence in his future.

You can help keep this momentum going. FLC relies on donors, volunteers, and business partners to make programs like JMG thrive. Whether you sponsor a work experience, mentor a student, or support life-skills classes, you are investing in the next generation of Michigan’s workforce. Together, we can ensure every young person in our region has the chance to graduate, find meaningful work, and build a brighter future.
